Their Story
From high school sweethearts to husband and wife.
Kendall and Josh first met at high school and have been together since 2014. Over the years, they grew up alongside each other, building a relationship filled with friendship, trust, laughter and shared history.
The proposal happened at their first home, early one morning before work. Josh told Kendall there was something wrong with the fence, so they headed out onto the deck to have a look. While they were out there, he proposed.
It was simple, unexpected and perfectly suited to them.
A wedding with personal touches
Kendall and Josh did not have a strict theme for their wedding. Instead, they liked the idea of keeping things black and white, with a few meaningful pops of colour throughout the day.
Kendall’s bridesmaids were her “something blue”, while her bright pink shoes were a tribute to her grandma. Pink and purple flowers in her bouquet also honoured both her grandma and Josh’s nana, adding personal meaning to the styling in a subtle and beautiful way.
The most important thing when planning the wedding was that the day felt fun and relaxed for everyone. Kendall and Josh enjoyed choosing their vendors and working out how they wanted the celebration to look, although narrowing down the guest list was much harder. Like so many couples, they wanted everyone there, even though that was not possible.
The moments they will never forget
For Kendall, the favourite moment of the day was walking down the aisle and seeing Josh for the first time. For Josh, it was walking into the reception surrounded by everyone they love and care about.
Both were surprised by just how emotional that first look down the aisle became. Seeing each other on the day brought everything into focus, and they both burst into tears.
“Seeing each other for the first time. We both just burst into tears.”
One of the most meaningful parts of the day was visiting Kendall’s grandad, who was unable to attend the wedding due to being unwell. They made time to go and see him so he could see Kendall in her dress, and the photographs from that visit became incredibly special for the whole family.
After the ceremony, Kendall and Josh also had a few quiet minutes together to take everything in. With everyone gathered there for them, surrounded by so much love, it became one of the moments they would most like to relive.
“Just taking in everyone being there for us and feeling so much love.”
A relaxed photography experience
Before the wedding, Kendall and Josh were nervous about being photographed. Like many couples, they were not sure how it would feel being in front of the camera for such a big part of the day.
What helped most was keeping the experience relaxed, fun and easy. Nothing was taken too seriously, there was plenty of laughter, and when a little direction was needed it was simple and clear. That helped them feel comfortable and allowed the photographs to feel natural.
Their favourite images include the beach portraits of just the two of them, the photographs with Kendall’s grandad, and the group photos with family and friends. More than anything, they love how natural the photographs feel.
“The photos are so natural. We were so at ease and you can really see the love in them.”
Kendall and Josh described the experience as amazing from start to finish. The communication during planning, help with locations and timing, and the ability to include the visit to Kendall’s grandad all helped make the day feel easier and more meaningful.
Advice for future couples
Looking back, Kendall’s advice to newly engaged couples is to take your time. Enjoy being engaged before jumping straight into the chaos of wedding planning.
She also says to trust your vendors. One of the things she worried about beforehand was how the day would come together, but in the end it just happened. The people around them knew what they were doing, and that allowed Kendall and Josh to enjoy the day.
“Take it all in. It’s a huge day, but stop and appreciate the day as a whole.”
For Kendall and Josh, the day was exactly what they had hoped for: love, fun, family and memories they will carry with them forever.
